DiCaprio and Mulligan, meanwhile, don’t seem like star-crossed lovers so much as a delusional man in love with a bauble of a woman. Maybe that’s intentional?

People Magazine’s review on ‘The Great Gatsby’

Did these people even read the book?  I mean seriously, now…

(via bennywhistleswhileheworks)

lol is this for real?

(via thequeenofcupsexpectsapicnic)

I demand to know

who first decided to use the term “star-crossed lovers” in reference to The Great Gatsby

so I can go back in time and PREVENT THE WARPING OF THIS STORY IN THE ENTIRE PUBLIC CONSCIOUSNESS WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH EVERYONE JESUS CHRIST

Ugh I’m expecting a rehash of everything awful and tacky about Loulin Rouge, TBH, except it’ll make me even angrier because I actually like the book of Gatsby. And… you should read David Denby’s New Yorker review because it sounds GARISH and TERRIB

i actually rly like moulin rouge! but i think it is because like, that garishness seems well-placed to me.  i guess this pisses me off because a) it’s fucking with source material that i care about a LOT and b) it’s furthering the public cultural misunderstanding of said source material.  ughhhh

parts of the frame narrative of nick “writing” the great gatsby appear on screen and then float away like snow. it was awful.

oh no

oh no that’s terrible.  also like it is already a frame narrative explicitly in the book but the story they apparently added to it is DUMB and STUPID and DUMB wow i’m so eloquent

myrtle flying through the air what/ ??  if you’re going to make myrtle’s death super gruesome

let’s see a closeup of

her left breast was swinging loose like a flap and there was no need to listen for the heart beneath.  The mouth was wide open and ripped at the corners as though she had choked a little in giving up the tremendous vitality she had stored so long (p. 145)

there was

no need

to listen

for the heart beneath

also headache

the frame narrative was obnoxious, the lettering visuals and the myrtle flying through the air were unnecessary, the dialogue was messy (some of which due to the source material but UGH). it felt like lurhmann read the book wrong.

lettering visuals?? that sounds awful??  whats happening??  ugh this sounds terrible im angry about it i love that book so so much god why does everyone like this movie so much i bet it socks
